"Rainy Night In G.A." Tribute

Since about 2 months ago while performing my usually digital crate digging for something to sample...I kept running into different versions of the song "Rainy Night In Georgia" by different artists. I had no idea that the song had been recorded by the following artists....

Greg Barrett; The Bees Knees; Jo Jo Benson; Acker Bilk;
Blues Boy Willie; Aron Burton; Ray Charles; Nick Colionne;
Randy Crawford; The Crusaders; Jimmy Ellis; Eric Essix;
Philipp Frankhauser; Eddie Floyd; Tennessee Ernie Ford;
Amos Garrett; Mileage Gilbert; Hearts of Stone; Al Hirt;
Hit Crew; John Holt; Chuck Jackson; Peter Lancaster;
Little Milton; Lord Tanamo; Willie Mabon; Herbie Mann;
Sam Moore; Kenny Parker; Gil Parris; The Persuasions;
Arthur Prystock; Boots Randolph; Nelson Riddle & his Orch.;
Billy Lee Riley; Johnny Rivers; David Ruffin; Otis Rush;
Billy Scott; Eddie Shaw; Little Matt Simmons; Wynn Stewart;
The Temptations Revue; B.J. Thomas; Nicky Thomas;
Conway Twitty; Earl Van Dyke; Lonie Walker; Tony Joe White;
Hank Williams Jr.

...anyway...the homie P.A. told me that the rapper Dolla (an artist that was signed to Akon's Kovict Music label) had a track that he put out just days before he was murdered that used the same sample. After hearing the track for myself after I made my version of the sample, I felt that I could no longer use the beat for what I attendant to. So rather than letting it sit in the vault I decided to release it as a tribute.....

Here's a link to Dolla's version of the sample..his lyrics are actually quite eerie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE3-y7K-V9c

(True fact: It rained in Atlanta, Georgia the night before, the day of and the day after Dolla was murdered)

Assassin With Son

Last night I got lucky and found a gem. The soundtrack to one of my favorite movies, "Shogun Assassin".

The movie's outlook is a Shogun who grew paranoid as he became senile sent his ninjas and sons to kill his #1 samurai. They failed but did kill the samurai’s wife. The samurai swore to avenge the death of his wife and roams the countryside with his toddler son in search of vengeance. Apparently they made 4 sequels but I've only seen the 1st one. The 1st movie is rare enough but the sequels are even harder to find.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of synthesizer used instrumentals but this soundtrack gets a pass. I wouldn't of thought you could make great melodies like the ones I've heard on the soundtrack. Needless to say....I'm sampling the hell out of this soundtrack.

Inspired By The Best(Dillanized)

One of my most favorite Dilla beats along with many others is "Gobstoppers"from the "Donuts" LP. It's a small sample but it just has so much soul into it. Never fails to make head's nod regardless of the mood. Normally I wouldn't dare to try and sample something that Dilla has already sampled. But after hearing Charles Hamilton's version of "Gobstoppers" and to all of a sudden find the actual sample itself...I decided to follow the zone of my biggest inspiration producer. Below this is Dilla's "Gobstoppers" beat along with Hamilton's version called "Cable In The Class Room" and finally my version, "Secluded Transcripts 2 Dilla II".

Dilla-heads, let me know what ya'll think.

Interlude No.1: Gambittized

A few weeks ago I visited one of my favorite blog sites chiefofaffections.blogspot.com and seen a video post that stuck with me for awhile. Anytime I was having a bad day or one of my "pause of creativity" moments, I would play this video. It was created by a lady name Nina for the "Bova International Festival Of New Images"(BovaImagesFestival.net). Most of all my samples are from inspirations....so why stop just at "crate diggin'"?

My Original 1st Luv...

Don't get me wrong, I've always loved music. But before I could create it I loved cars....specially street-racing when I was younger. Meet My 1st love.

My 1999 Acura Integra GS-R
Had this when I was 19...this car fitted me perfectly and I had held it down for about 4 years until I got screwed out of a job and I couldn't keep up the maintenance on it. The funny thing was it never gave me a problem until I lost that job. Then the cat.converter in the exhaust fucked up, follow by suspension & shocks, then the engine head, clutch and finally the transmission. I had no money to even begin fixing it so I sold it and bought a Civic that lasted one weekend before the transmission actual FELL OUT of the car. That murdered my street-racing zone for awhile.

2006 Scion xB
Normally this isn't my style of vehicle lol...I prefer old school slabs(like my 1986 Cutlass Supreme that I don't have pics oh smh) or rides like my Integra above.
But my mom's made a deal that I couldn't turn down being that I needed a car. She's a car head also...she loves those weird cars that stand out from others. Like the xB when it 1st came out. She even has a club, Scion Evolution, that she is the President of in the NOVA chapter of the group. So being that she had a tricked out Scion ...oh, here's a pic of her tricked out ride while I'm at it...

Turbo-charged, nitrous, system, air-bag suspension..u name it,she had it.
Anyway, easy to see I had to catch up a bit with the "Evil Twin" version of her's. No major engine work...being it has the areo-dynamics of a brick....but I looked at it as a nice boombox. Six Matt Pro Audio 10 inch subs, two amps, two LCD HD 15 inch screens in the back with Pioneer DVD player. This is when I was rolling with a audio shop called Car Audio Outlet with my homeboy before it closed April of last year.

Now the present/future...

1990 Nissan 300zx
It was bad enough when "Top Gear"...a British car show that focus strictly on fast cars....had a episode when they took all the generations of the Nissan Z and had one big race with all the cars line up side by side and the 300zx pulls & smokes all of them...stock, mind you(followed by a 1980's z280) and also the last model 350z got smoked by the 300....stock.
But my 300zx isn't your regular 300zx. The reason why its in the shop is because where putting the JDM engine and transmission including the ECU chip(the Japanese version before they de-powered it into the American versions which are the ones here, even the twin turbo ones) and it will be fully tuned with the exception of nitrous....just all motor. Its estimated to make out to 400 horsepower...give or take a few. This is gonna be one bad muthafucka to play with. Did I mention this is the twin-turbo JDM engine?
Thanx to my boy from back in the day Belco ....whoI might add is still salty over the L he took when I had the Integra....lol...just playing homie, I owe u for this....he included me in this to be OUR project car. Now due to recent news it will be fully my car after he cops his G35( thanx my dude, not too many people will hook up a car with you and then give it to you for a major discount...specially a car that still goes for $10,000+ on or off the market. You know you have my loyalty forever since we was kids)

So yea....week after next I will be terrorizing the streets.....and not in no little 4 cylinder this time...a V6 from hell and on steroids

I am happy with both of my loves....music and fast cars.

Justin Allen - Maybe I Am Crazy

My boy Justin dropped another project this week called "Maybe I Am Crazy".
1 of the main things I like about Jae is that he's not afraid to show himself to anyone...including his flaws and self-battles that he goes thru and what we all go thru rather it be different or simalar. He told me when he put together this project is was part of him doing things randomly as he does. For a random not planned project this is pretty fuckin ill.

It has a good balance between serious issues, trials from his past, current self demands and then you have Justin pretty much calling things out how he see's it far as the female subject goes. Don't get that twisted as a negative ladies...he goes in on the pros and cons so drop your guard. Then of course you got the swag-heavy Justin....I'm trying to cover the basics but this dude has alot of angles to his music.....thats always a + cause alot of these niggas sound the same just different beats...sometimes not ever that.

Through out the project with the tracks & the bief message-skits you getting the feel of the title real quickly. Every track explains itself when you hear it.
I got more than a few favorites. "Committed"....if you have a focus in music or anything that you have a passion for, this might become your theme for the summer. "I Lied(Sewicyde)" is throwed. Your ears provide the pictures courtesy of Justin's story telling skills, something I'mma go ahead and say that he's mastered. The hook real trap you in his pain. Dead azz....I put that on MY music.
Any real brother can relate to the "Jealousy" track. Ladies can experience the silent thoughts of a man but you can't be sensative to honesty.

I'mma let ya'll check this and not black on the whole gave-a-way.
Yes, I got two tracks I produced on here....but on some real shit, that ain't nothing but a tease to whats to come from the both of us.

7 Step Poem/Freestyle

This is ill, shout out to P.A. for putting me on to this.
As jacked from www.chinapage.org

When Cao Cao died, his older son attained the throne. He was afraid of his younger brother and wanted to rid of him by some pretense. One day in Court he commanded the younger brother Cao Zhi to compose a poem, within the set time of walking 7 paces. Cao Zhi (c.192-232) complied and wrote this moving, unforgettable poem:

Beans are boiled by the fire of beanstalks.
And beans cry in the pot:
"We both came from the same roots,
Why burn me so unrelentingly?"

It was said that the elder brother was moved to tears and left Cao Zhi alone.

....that man P.A. said that I should hit the next wanna-be gangsta rapper that comes to me asking about my beats with some shit like this.
Nigga, walk seven paces & come up with a freestyle without guns or drugs involved.
If u do I'll give you a instrumental, if not...an epic-fail for you will immediately occur afterwards.

In someways this is viewed like the 1st freestyle ever.

Signs Of A Ill Summer Pt.2/Project Info

My boy P.A. and I are currently working on his project entitled "Mary Jane:Maybe Later,But Not Tonight". We've been strictly working on the beats this whole week and what we've came up with so far has been mind blowing.

The 1st promo single should be released by July 20th according to P.A., which is produced by me. The beat....it is a trunk/summer banger. It's radio friendly even. You'll be surprised what I sampled to get it to sound like it does but I'm quiet on that until its release. But I took an R&B song(that is currently in heavy play on the radio.Hint:The artist name starts with a J and he is a male artist) and made it go hard.

On another note while in my part of the making of the project far as beat wise I hope to get the inspiration to step up on a song with P.A., if I fit any of his ideas for a feature. I really want to take the next step. My folks that have heard me flow or freestyle in the past are telling me "nigga quit bullshitting and go in".
I'm confident in myself on my ability....just nervous as shit. Its different flowing infront of people that your tight with than to go in the booth.....scared of the booth, type of wack shit that is, right? I guess its just like that 1st time gettin....nevermind lmao.

And on some other real shit, P.A. is finding his zone while making his own beats. So I feel like I gotta step up where he is. He can perform in the booth and outside while making beats. I gotta be able to do both as well before I become.....not so useful anymore. I got these beats when it comes to that, like thats my master form. P.A. mastered form is flowing....but now he's gettin ill with these beats and I know what I can do far as flowing and writing...just haven't stepped up yet.

That has to change....asap.
Matter of fact....I'mma start writing and posting my work soon.

P.A. did give me some good advice about this a few weeks ago...
"Just Be Gambitt"

Check P.A.'s blog for more detailed info about the project. Its not gonna be your average project. Take the game from me on that one.

"Mary Jane:Maybe Later,But Not Tonight" should be out by September 11th.

Hip Hop + Anime = Epic!!

I been in and out of the anime scene back in the day and now-a-day times.
I was never the "DragonBall Z fanboy", I can't stand DragonBall Z to be honest. Just a bit too much for me. When that was out I was into the "Street Fighter II,The Series" anime. Not that american cartoon that came out, the anime one. With all the cursing and blood. I don't think it ever aired on tv in America but when the DVD's came out I copped all of them. Then I faded out of anime until a few more Street Fighters came out and then I found "Bleach", "Afro Samurai" which is still my current favorite, "Death Note" and now "Samurai Champloo".

I love the animes that involves Hip-Hop (i.e.:Afro Samurai & Samurai Champloo), those are the illest ones in my opinion. I def. need to cop the 'Champloo dvd. I was planning on sampling the ending credits to Samurai Champloo for the "SoultapeLvL1" project but other ideas over came that one but I still will get it done soon as I have my full plan for it.

The aftermath & results of "SoultapeLvL1".....I will make a post about that soon. Still waiting for a bit more feedback and the two more blog plugs for it that are on the way ::grins:: Just enjoying having lights again....oh and yea my power had got cut off but I'll explain that bullshit later.

Nervous

On some real shit...

I'm nervous as fuck about putting this project out.
This shit is different.....that's not usual a bad thing with me but I don't want to get that response like this shit is throwed-off different, like...not understandable different.

I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too much about it. Maybe alittle over-whelmed.
6 months ago, I couldn't do what I do now. I haven't been doing this for a long period of time or nothing. Not seriously anyway. I wish I would of been more serious about it the 1st time I touched FL Studio 3-4 years ago. I wasn't inspired back then like I became not so long ago. Its the Dilla beats, 9th Wonder beats, Charles Hamilton beats that gave me the motivation to be different and try what I had in my head.

Charles Hamilton said it best when he was talking about Dilla...
"Dilla wasn't afraid to take chances"

....while making the "Soultape" project, I went in with the same mind state. Go for broke....like Dilla would.

Here's the beat/track-listing so far for
SoultapeLvL1:Smoke,Music,Illusions.

4 Ace Assassin
Soul Of A Machine Gun
Epic Afflictions
Gambitt Playz With Ether
Summer Smoke
Old Friend From '96
Soul Medicine
Uncertainty
Interstate 420
It Is What It Isn't
Night, Rain & Pain
EWGF(Electric Wind God Fist)
GamxJae Feat. Jae Alz(4 Ace Assassin Beat)

...the main element about this project that worries me alittle is that there really isn't a certain style that's link to all beats....other than that there all "soulful".
I mean, some have a southern feel. Others, NY underground type, others....N/A lol

One thing I will include in the back-cover is a 2Pac quote.
"You don't have to bump this but please respect it"

I'm out 4 the night.....for real this time lol

Small Preview/Quick Update

When my old homeboy Jae Alz from high school came thru to visit, we politick about music and I played a few beats from the "Soultape" project. He caught interest to the "A Ace Assassin" joint so let him do what he does. Blessed the hell out of it too.
Check the track below or just listen to the imeem player to the left. That instrumental will be on the project for anyone who wants to do damage to it.
Shout out to Jae Alz, real good people and has a deep passion for music like my self and my new music partners(what up P.A., Precyse, Joe Cool).

As for the project, it might be ready sooner than I said. I want 3 more instrumentals done for it. After this, I want to see if I can get every one of those beats laced up by folks that I just mention. It will be a challenge lol...reason why I say that because some of the beats aren't your average instrumentals but they can be vicious with the proper flow.

Bout to go pass out and wake up in the morning to continue the work left for the project. Holla @ ya'll soon.
