I was amped when I ran upon this female emcee by the name of Signif while I was net surfing on undergroundcharizma.com. (KidNice, holla at me my g)

She has bars...she can flow...she keeps it thoro (no reckless shit)...I love her choice in beats...I couldn't ask more. After watching her music vid (located at the bottom of this post) I went further and downloaded her latest project "The Transition"...and I was not let down.

Managed to speak with her on twitter...got the "ok" to send her some beats...task completed. Going to keep some gems on the side for her as I make any recent ones.

"Blue Bomber Bluez" Re-Up

To my surprise this year more than a few folks have asked me to re-up this project. To me this is my worst...mainly cause I hate myself for using 8-bit samples. Granted it was only 3 beats that were 8-bit samples but...I don't know. It's just how I feel.

The one thing about this project is that I made it in 3 days while in some of the worst physical pain I've been thru. (fibromyalgia muscle disorder)
It does hold some personal standard to me.

Found A Gem To Start Off The Day...

Was in the middle of some early morning crate diggin'...which I normally do at 1am-6am but for some odd reason my sleep schedule has went back to normal. Anyway, found this funk/soul band called Brothers Unlimited and got a hold of an hard to find album entitled "Who's For The Young" released in 1970. I like it! "Life, Dreams, Death" is my favorite song. This is the type of 70's soul/funk that I wish I could find on command but it happens on my lucky nights...well, mornings in this case. I am sampling this track right now. Take a listen for yourself.

I never thought much of fortune or the word of fortune until the word artist was put into the same sentence. A little more than a year ago I was at my most possible low. To cut a long story short, out of motivation from the music I was listening to at the time (J-Dilla, Joe Budden and Charles Hamilton)...I downloaded the FL Studio 7 production program (a.k.a. Fruity Loops). That was the best thing to ever happen in my life. It's a way to vent out my emotion, stress and creative ideas. It's also something that I can succeed in and also finally make my mother proud of me instead of the child hood disappointments I created.

That earlier statement is sooo ill. I mean, I've always been a little artist in my own mind. My child-hood drawings I use to do damn near every day.

Wait....lol....now that I think about it...

As a child I would hear songs from movies, video games and etc....and then beat-box my own little beat over the song. Hah...even when I was a child I was sampling music.....that is extremely TRILL.

Rather if it was luck or if it was just meant to be....I got my fortune...or for what I consider my fortune. And I got it from being an artist.

That was a nice overthinking session, wouldn't you say? lol

Assassin With Son

Last night I got lucky and found a gem. The soundtrack to one of my favorite movies, "Shogun Assassin".

The movie's outlook is a Shogun who grew paranoid as he became senile sent his ninjas and sons to kill his #1 samurai. They failed but did kill the samurai’s wife. The samurai swore to avenge the death of his wife and roams the countryside with his toddler son in search of vengeance. Apparently they made 4 sequels but I've only seen the 1st one. The 1st movie is rare enough but the sequels are even harder to find.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of synthesizer used instrumentals but this soundtrack gets a pass. I wouldn't of thought you could make great melodies like the ones I've heard on the soundtrack. Needless to say....I'm sampling the hell out of this soundtrack.

The Rise & Fall...

1st, I would like to thank everyone who commented in the last post. All input was very useful. I've updated the music-player with a few beats, I'll throw some more up this weekend. Download the SoultapeLvLZer0 to your right if you haven't already.

"SoultapeLvL3: The Burning Ace" will be my last beat-tape which I will release sometime during the summer. Reasons why are mainly I want to focus on giving my best to the artists I've been lucky to work with rather than just throwing out beats for any or everyone to use. And I often fear people not giving me the proper credit. I work hard on my music....someone claiming it as there work just breaks my heart thinking about it. Also, if all goes well with my plan for a release this month...there really won't be a need for me to just put out beat-tapes....but the sound of "Soultapes" will continue in my vocal-projects.

"Code 4:20" ...my vocal-rap project...title subject to change as the project progresses. But as the current title hints, it will be a smoker-based-project...w/ soul of course. If this goes the way I want it to go, the "Soultape" series will pick up from here. So as I said, the title may change.
I'm aiming for 10-12 tracks, completely produced by me. Most of the production is complete, it's the recording I have to knock out. The thing that is messing with me is that I could possible lose the little sanity I have left while writing and recording. What most people don't find out about me is that, it's not that I cannot write, rhyme or rap. It's that I don't normally take it upon myself to focus on it. Making beats relaxes me. I get lost in the music rather then visiting thoughts that are in my head. The "visiting thoughts in my head" part is what I fear. I have a lot of hidden anger and issues stored. And writing makes it all come back.

A few months ago Precyse and myself was toying with the idea of doing a project together with both of us flowing over a hand-picked selection of Fat Jon beats. We recorded two songs, the 1st was ok. Then the 2nd one....I blacked. That's the side that worries me. I lost my composure within seconds. I became very angry. That dark side has gotten me into a lot of trouble and I've hurt a few people who I intended no harm in my past. Granted, I was in pain while recording and I feel that's what might have made me enter that vibe but before the pain was as bad as it is at my current age, back in my teens I wasn't in as much pain or as often but I would find myself in that dark vibe. I've worked hard to not go that route anymore, but that fucker finds ways to drag me back in. In the past, people in general made me that way.....the physical pain of today is like a broken temper switch that cuts on with or without the help of people. ::Sighs:: ....but anyway. I'm always getting the push to do this project from associates, artists that I work with, family/true friends, old friends that have heard me flow from my teenage years....even my mother. So I'm going to try it. But...........

Music Confusion

For awhile I've been having this constant battle with my music rather if I should focus more on my southern style of beats and stick strictly with my underground NY/ Dilla inspired style. Many people have been like, mix them together. In my opinion some arts just don't mix...at least not all of the time. I've had a few beats were it's kind of sounded like both styles. More or less than the other but both.

Recently a few artists (rappers, if you will) have been reaching out asking me to send them some works. I sent one person a beat Saturday night and I feel it's one of my best...no response from this cat usually means he passed on it cause he has accepted my other beats. Point being, the beats that I feel are superb are the ones that usually get looked over but the ones that I don't vibe with as much or maybe even dislike are the ones that people are hyped about. Is there something wrong with my ears? smh

In that case like as some rappers have to "dumb down there lyrics" so there audience will catch up I'm feeling like I need to maybe...."dumb down my beats". How the hell would I do that I couldn't tell. Or maybe I just haven't really found my audience yet. I got a few people here and there that dig a major part of my works...but still...

Experiencing Jimi Hendrix In 2010

I've managed to get a hold of the new Jimi Hendrix album, "Valleys Of Neptune". Hearing it gives you the impression that it was recorded yesterday. I've never heard Hendrix sound so great, clear, detailed. It's the way his music should have been mastered after all these years.
Granted, the 12 song album is bound together with a few unreleased studio tracks, an alternate version of "Fire", and a few studio recorded versions of songs that were only heard in his performances in the live-concert album releases. Regardless, this is an album to listen to. Hearing Hendrix in this quality is like listening to him for the 1st time all of over again...a brand new experience. I've found this article written about the album, it's a good read to get an better idea of the album for those who may be unsure on purchasing it.

And the Hendrix-news only gets better...on the way are remastered versions of Hendrix's classic albums. After hearing the quality of the new album, it's a must I get a hold of those. This type of treatment for quality of Hendrix's music is way over due. I need to get my pops a CD player...I bet he would have a hell of a moment listening to Hendrix in the quality I've heard him in.(My father is a big Hendrix fan...the 1st taste of music I've ever heard was Hendrix thanks to the old man.)

Along with J-Dilla of course, these producers have had a big impact on my style. The technique and the importantly but slept on element...the choice of sample. I get lucky every so often (plus w/ the help of fellow music lovers, you know who you are) in finding samples as soulful, reaching and touching as this one. It captures you. One who cannot feel this is one without heart or a soul. I'm going to have to step my sample-digging-game up.

Return Of The Blue Bomber...

Long time no blog...
Mega Man was the game in the late 80's/early 90's.
Even better, the music(even if it was in 8bit audio) wasn't half bad. A lot of them were catchy actually. Even to it's current or recent format of games. Mega Man has always had a few gems hidden as stage themes.

I actually have a few from Mega Man 3, 4, 5, and 6 that I'm sitting on. Just waiting on the right xone to flip them. What I have already flipped...a few gems from the Mega Man 8 game that came out on PS1 & Dreamcast. One of the samples will be on P.A.'s "How 2 Make A EP" that we will post up sometime this month. The 2nd sample I actually finished this morning. Not sure on what is going to happen with it. Might go up for sale on the beat-website coming soon or it might go to one of my boys. Waiting on the word from the boy Geoh if its worth selling.(what up my dude).

Of course, I'm a big fan of "grind-house" type movies.
This one looks to be pretty good...Michael Jai White as "Black Dynamite"....dude is already like the "super-nigga" or something....have you seen his action-flicks? "Blood and Bone" action scenes were epic!

Update From The 4 Ace Assassin

Shout out to the boy P.A. for the Gambit shirt and the BBDD's(Beats By Dr Dre headphones, for those who don't know), that made my week.
The music has only been getting better, what more can I really say about that.
I feel as if I'm syncing more and more into my xone. My style is building into a detail sound....and I love it.

So much music but its kinda just sitting unfortunately.
The project that me and P.A. have been working on is still in progress but getting the man in the studio on the regular has been the issue as of late. Not has fault but the people who he has to go thru....it just seems as if it always something. But its being worked on so no big worries.

The man Justin Allen...well, I gotta keep quiet about that one but there's some music that will surface up. And from what I've heard....the nigga pretty much 1up himself. It'll be worth the hiatus, I can tell you that much.



"SoultapeLvL2" is being worked on at this point of time. This go around, I want to have it 50% instrumental, 50% artists flowing over my beats. Kinda level it out. P.A., Precyse and Justin Allen is a sure shot bet that they will be on the project. I'm sitting on two other names until I'm completely sure ::evil grin:: but it's looking good.

I'm also got another artist I want to get a few gems completed with. Check out the homie Al.N York ...the man is already a threat, I promise you that. I'm got my fingers crossed to have him apart of "SoultapeLvL2" also.

And for the hell of it, I'mma complete my "SoultapeX:Tekken Remixes" project for the release of my favorite video game Tekken 6 on Oct.27th. Basically I sampled a bunch of Tekken themes and flipped them.

"Inglourious Basterds" Was A-Booming!

1st strong statement I want to make...
Inglourious Basterds > Pulp Fiction...
And I loved Pulp Fiction...

Quentin Tarantino has blacked. I admit, I was 50/50 on how this movie was going to turn out but I'm a loyal Tarantino fan. He has never let me down in any of his films. Some are better than others, don't get me wrong. But "Inglourious Basterds" is epic.

Including Brad Pitt in a Tarantino film...at 1st I was like, aww....this man falling off. Getting a major Hollywood star to push his movie.....I was completely wrong. Brad Pitt made the movie even more interesting. I don't think anyone else would have done that part justice. Damn near every line he had is str8 comedy...and the old-skool southern accent he uses adds to it. Eli Roth's character is one of my favorite's (ol'boy scrapped with the bat). Remember seeing those reality-video clips of something big happening around a big crowd on TV and the whole crowd makes this big "Awwww!!!!" all-at-once sound? That was the entire theater when Eli goes to work with that bat.
Lmao.

Is it possible for a movie to be "violently-funny"?
If so...this is your movie. There are parts that will literally make you jump cause its so sudden. Def. has that "WTF!" effect.

Tarantino has his work cut out for him to top this one.
Last I heard, his next project was supposed to be based on an old-skool "GrindHouse/B-Movie" type movie about 3 females that go around fuckin' people up...like the evil and badder Charlie's Angels before there was Charlie's Angel.
I'll have to dig for that info.

Anyway, I will def. go see this again sometime this week. I rarely go to the movies to see anything twice. I might see it once on the big screen and then wait for the DVD....but this one.....nah, one more go for me.

Every so often I'm going to drop a little preview of the beats and instrumentals I've been working on. Along with info behind the origin of the sample and alittle about the original artist.

1st up, Jerry Butler's "Take the Time to Tell Her"

This takes me back to when I was in Louisiana...just riding around in my 1984 Cutlass Supreme. Bumping old-skool soul songs such as this one. Throwing a few in the air along for the ride....ah...good times...good times.

No shortage on music....that's for damn sure.
Went to my people's crib yesterday and borrowed there CPU to finish up a few beats since I cannot do any of it at home because of the sound issue...smh...that shit is killing me. Soon will be fixed according to P.A..

Speaking of P.A...
this man sent me this beat lastnight while I was at my homegirl's spot and I fell in love with that joint. It's Keyshia Cole sample....he told me that it felt like I was there helping him make the joint. I'll tell you this much, it does sound like one of my joints but you can tell its his style and his work. The joint is still in my head...damnit I wish I had sound now that I'm back at my spot. I would be cranking that joint right now.
Anyway, it will be on the "MaryJane:Not Tonight But Maybe Later" project between P.A. and myself which is still sitting on the 9/11 release date.

...finally got a hold of this M.I.A. ass nigga of mine(what up homie)and he explain to me what was all going down with the music. My homeboy found one of my older beats that I had intended to put on the "SoultapeLvL1" project but my old CPU crashed in January and I lost the FL file. Well I forgot I would do a beat out of boredom at his spot and there was the damn FL file. The beat was called "Soul Serious"...I know I posted the imeen-link for it on here months ago of the original beat....yesterday I upgraded cause it sound madd dated and sent it to the boy Precyse. See if he digs it. It sounds 5x better than the original version. Mainly cause that was the 5th beat I ever did....and yes...I kinda 1up since then.

Other Works...
Yesterday I also finished the beat with the Nas' "Queens Get The Money" sample for the boy P.A. and that will be on "The Amazing SpiderMan" project...which will drop not far after the "MaryJane" project. I hope to get both P.A. and Justin Allen on that track....its fuckin' epic!.

Friday....right before the headphones shorted out...I finished a beat containing a 12 piece sample. Meaning, I took one sample and sampled it 12 times in one beat....also meaning (lol) that there are mad change ups. I sent it to someone that day but got no response but then Jae picked it up and gave it the blessing it so deserved. U will hear that soon on Justin's next project.

I'm trying to learn how to put acapellas in FL Studio and lay them over a beat so I can start my remix project sometime this year. Anyone know how to do this specifically?
If I learn I have two projects in mind....a various remix project and an 2Pac remix project(I have over 90 2Pac acapellas).

Soultape LvL2 is somewhat already being started. I got to hit a few people up on the beats that there sitting on and not using. Cause I want those to be heard with or without vocals. If I had to take a guess on when I might finish this project....maybe Oct/Nov....maybe even alittle sooner. I already have plans and ideas for SoultapeLvL3...but I don't want to get ahead of myself. "LvL2" will be more alive than "LvL1"...meaning it will be alittle more than just beats. It will be the way its layed out...almost like some movie type stuff.

Ok...time to sleep....been up since yesterday. I went crazy once I finally got to touch my music again(pause)...those two days without putting out creativity was driving me depressed. I'll hit up my favorite blogs after I get some rest.
